Learn to paint Landscapes in the beautiful Hudson Valley. Why travel long distances when we have an abundance of beauty here. There are an endless supply of beautiful motifs to paint here in the Hudson Valley. What could be more relaxing than painting a beautiful landscape in nature?

Learn to paint in the open air for beginer.

The Workshop will consist of six indoor evening sessions and one outdoor session. Each evening session will be two hours long. The sessions will be on Wednesday every other week at 7:00pm at my studio. We will start with the basics, such as equipment, setup, & the approach to open air painting. By the end of the evening sessions you will be at a level where you will feel confident starting your first painting in the open air. After the six evening sessions, we will then have an eight hour day session at some local site. The day session will start on a Saturday morning with an on-the-spot demonstration. The demonstration will be accompanied with a lecture explaining my method of painting. After the demonstration the students will have most of the day to complete their painting. Each student will be helped according to his or her ability. There will be a critique of each student's work after the painting session is completed. The evening sessions will start in February.

 

Group Lesson

Richard has been painting for many years and sells his work in a number of galleries. His great understanding of nature makes it possible for him to teach students in many different mediums. The way the workshops are setup, students can be of all different levels. Painters of all levels will learn and enjoy the workshop. Schedule all day group workshops will consist of an on-the-spot demonstration. The demonstration will be accompanied with a lecture explaining my method of painting. The demonstration will last from 1 1/2 to 2 hours. After the demonstration the students will have most of the day to complete their painting. Each student will be helped according to his or her ability. In the late afternoon there will be a critique of the paintings. The critique will be of each students work.

 

Evening week day lessons are available. The evening lessons last about 2 hours. They take place in my studio or outdoors depending on the weather and ability of the students. Evening classes will be kept to small groups of two or three people.

 

 

Private Lesson

Private lessons at a near by scenic areas such as Clermont seen in the on line lesson, will be available upon request. A private lesson will be a minimum of 4 hours.

The painting demonstration will take you through the whole process from the thumb nail sketch to the final complete painting as seen. I will go over design, value, under painting, and the fundamentals of painting landscapes. The workshop will open your eye’s to a whole new world. You will see colors and beauty like never before. You will feel closer to nature then you thought possible. Even if you are not an artist, but just someone looking to get back into nature. This workshop is a perfect chance.
